Rex Slingluff

Rex Marvin Slingluff, 74, of Marshalltown died Sunday, February 28th, 2010 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, March 4th at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating and Military Honors by the VFW Post 839.  There will be no visitation.  Following the graveside service, all of Rex’s friends are invited to JD’s Pub to join his family in celebrating his life.  Memorials may be directed to Rex’s family.  For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com.  The Mitchell Family Funeral home is caring for Rex and his family, phone 641-844-1234.          Rex was born in Montour on September 21st, 1935 to parents Raymond and Birtie (Smith) Slingluff.  He attended school in Montour, and later in Marshalltown.            On August 16th, 1957 Rex was united in marriage to Sandra Stewart in Marshalltown.  Rex then served honorably in the United States Army from 1958-1960.  Upon returning from the Army, the couple made their home in Marshalltown, where they raised their two daughters.  Rex worked for many years at the Times-Republican as a printer.  He enjoyed bowling, playing marbles, and loved to play his guitar.  Rex enjoyed many years playing his guitar in “The Westerns”.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.          Left to celebrate Rex’s life is his loving wife Sandra, his daughters: Robin (Mark) Johnston of Marshalltown and Patty (Kirk) Moats of Crestview, FL; his grandchildren Travis Schumann, Derrick Moats, and Lindsi Moats; as well as many friends.          In death, Rex has rejoined his parents; his brothers: Raymond Slingluff and Richard Slingluff; his sisters: Mae Kvinlaug, Darlene McCargar, and Dorothy Dobson.
