Allen Richard Dale

April 22, 1954 — July 11, 2022

The joyful soul of Allen Richard Dale, age 68, of Marshalltown, left his earthly home on Monday, July 11, 2022 surrounded by his family and friends at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

Allen was born April 22, 1954 to Glenn and Betty (Wood) Dale in Bremerhaven, Germany, where his father was stationed. After his graduation from Belton High School in Missouri in 1972, Allen joined the United States Navy. He was a member of the Naval Reserve and eventually retired from the Airforce Reserve after 24 years of service.

Allen married the love of his life and one and only girlfriend, Judith "Judy" Johnson on June 09, 1979 at Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree as a Physician's Assistant at the University of Oklahoma in 1980. The couple settled down in Marshalltown, Iowa, where he was employed as a Physician's Assistant (PA) until 2017. Being a PA was more than a job, it was his passion - Allen absolutely loved helping people and people loved him.

A dedicated husband, father and friend, Allen loved his time with his family and especially enjoyed watching his kids grow up and play sports. He was a member of several organizations, including Optimist Club, Iowa PA Society, National PA Society and men's breakfast club and praise band through Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he was an active and faithful member. He was also active in volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America and coaching. In his free time, Allen enjoyed playing guitar (with Elvis), fishing and Butterball turkey hunting. He was a master gardener, hobby handyman and electrician. He had a unique sense of humor and had a real joy for life. He also made the best coat rack (ask Sara!) Allen was a die-hard Kansas City Royals fan and traveled to Spring Training every year. He loved to travel - visiting all 50 states, as well as internationally.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Judy; his daughter, Sara (Michael) Wiederin; granddaughter, Natalie Wiederin; his siblings: Becky (Chuck) Hiatt, Barb (Robert) Miller; sisters-in-law: Sheila Dale and Jane (Neal) Allen; brothers-in-law: AJ (Christy) Johnson and Willie (Sandy) Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, including Ross (Sally) Dale and his lifelong friend: Greg (Barbara) Bouguki.

Allen is preceded in death: his son, Bryan Dale; his parents; brother, Glenn "Butch" Dale Jr. and his grandparents.

Per the wishes of Allen and his family, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Mike Herschberger officiating. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation on Friday, July 15 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Our Savior Lutheran. He will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter on Friday, August 12 at 12:30 PM. Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Allen and his family.
