Allen LeRoy Seffinga, 73, of Marshalltown, lost his courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his family at his home under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home. Family graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2014 followed by a memorial gathering for the friends and family from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed towards the preservation for the Laurel United Methodist Church. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Allen and his family. Ph. 641-844-1234. Allen Seffinga was born on April 14, 1941 in Marshalltown to Willard and Vera Greenhow Seffinga. Allen graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1959. On April 1, 1961; Allen was united in marriage to Beverly Bailey and to this union four children were born; Connie, Jennie, Carmen and Mark. Allen retired from Fisher Controls after 36 years plus of service in 1995. Allen was an avid poker and card player. He liked to tinker and was very handy and would build something for anyone if he knew how to do it. Allen also ran a pattern shop where he would do mold work. He enjoyed to travel and would search out a good card game. Above all else; Allen enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family. Allen is survived by his children: Connie (Chad) Klein of Pella, Jennie Seffinga of Chicago, Illinois, Carmen (Ted) Bowen of Waukee and Mark Seffinga of Laurel. Grandchildren: Beau (Callie) Kane and Chase Kane, Rebecca and Emily Bowen, Chelsea (Zach) Van Horn, Kennady Klein, Charles, Spencer (Taylor) Merritt and Mikhail Merritt and Marcos Kapsalis. Great grandchildren: Brayden and Brody Van Horn and siblings Sandy Sanders of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Sharon (Bill) Luther of Gilman. Allen is preceded in death by his parents Willard and Vera and sister Arlene Shorty Seffinga.
