Anna K. Rice

Anna K. Rice, 74, of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Des Moines, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023 at Acura Healthcare in Marshalltown under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Saturday, April 8 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. A graveside service will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines, beginning at approximately 12:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the family. Born Anna Katharina Kernes on August 1, 1948 in Des Moines, IA, she was the daughter of Howard and Dorothy (Rhinehart) Kernes. She graduated from Tech High School in Des Moines in 1966. Anna was united in marriage to Ronald Howard Rice on October 19, 1980. In addition to being a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, she worked several jobs over the years. She obtained her CDL and later worked as a CNA at the Iowa Veterans Home. She was an incredibly talented singer and loved listening to music. She was also an amazing artist, especially enjoying arts and crafts. Anna loved gardening and was a great storyteller.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Thomas (Jodi) Leeper of Marshalltown, Richard (Amy) Leeper of Nevada and Bethany Leeper of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Jacob, Courtney, Morgan, Zach, Nathan, Emily, Jordan, Jonathan, Olivia and Ana; 11 great-grandchildren; her brothers: Howard “Bud” (Jan) Kernes and David Kernes; godson, Ronnie Thomas and her best friend, Ethelyn Blodgett.

In eternal life, she is reunited with her beloved husband, Ronald; her parents, Howard and Dorothy Kernes and her brothers: Jon Kernes Sr. and James Kernes.
