Barbara Stubbs, 68, of Marshalltown and formerly of the rural Marshall County surrounding areas, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
Per Barbara’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Barbara’s name may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown. Barbara Jo Perry was born on January 19, 1956 in Newton, Iowa. She was one of six children born to Thomas Perry and Gloria Francis (Eckholt). Barbara grew up in Newton, Iowa and attended school in Baxter, Iowa, later graduating in the Baxter High School Class of 1974.
On April 27, 1979, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Randy Stubbs in Marshalltown, Iowa. They began their married life together in Gilman, Iowa where Barbara took up working for the General Telephone Company as an operator. Shortly after they began a family of their own raising two sons, Andrew and Ryan. Over the years, Barbara and Randy lived in Tama, Le Grand, and Marshalltown, Iowa. Barbara took up working as a legal secretary in Toledo, Iowa for a number of years before going to work for Meskwaki Bingo and Casino where she served as the Secretary of the General Manager. She retired in 2018 from her position but working at Meskwaki was always her favorite place to work.
Barbara was a member of Grace Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. In her free time, Barbara loved to spend time at home and enjoyed her down time often watching tv or reading a good book. She enjoyed watching the old history documentaries and reading about history in general. In her younger years, she participated in bowling leagues in Marshalltown and Grinnell, liked to take family trips on the weekend to Lake Rathbun for boating and camping, and was a cheerleader while at Baxter High School. Above all things she loved to spend time with her family and her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 45 years, Randy Stubbs; her son, Ryan Stubbs; her grandchildren, Kaleb Schmidt, Kiley Schmidt and Riley Stubbs; her siblings, Jean (Kevin) Huseboe, Jim Perry, Cindy (Mark) Faircloth and Sue Jones; her step-brothers and sister, Michael Perry, Malinda Johnson, Kelly Perry, Rod (Veronica) Perry and Jimmy Meyer; alongside numerous half brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her son, Andrew Schmidt; her father, Thomas Perry; brother-in-law, Tony Jones; and sister-in-law, Donna Perry.
