Bernard Escherich, fondly known as Bernie by his friends, left this world on the evening of Sunday, August 31st, at the Hampton Care Center in Hampton, Iowa, at the age of 70. Funeral services to honor Bernies life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 4th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bea Lebuda of the Albion Presbyterian Church officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Albion Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in Marshalltown. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234. Bernie was raised in the Albion area and moved with his parents to an acreage northwest of Albion and southeast of Liscomb. He received his education in this area as well. He was employed for over 30 years at the Iowa Veterans Home in the stock/supply room and enjoyed going to jam sessions in Albion, especially when they played his favorite song, San Antonio Rose. He loved dogs and collected farm toys and pens. He enjoyed visiting with the people in his hometowns and driving around. Though Bernie had a small family by blood, including cousins- Roseanne (Mrs. Kenneth) Johnson of Mounds View, MN. And Lynn (Jack) Yoder in Colorado, he was extremely blessed by the people in his community. His best friend from childhood through adulthood, John Whaley and his family, his spiritual guidance and friend, Bea Lebuda, dear friends whom he loved to stop and visit Gene Walters and Ellis Bailey, Mr. Small in Liscomb and his friend and attorney he was so proud of, Jack Holveck of Des Moines.
