Betty Elaine Freel, 81, of Marshalltown, Iowa went to be with the Lord peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home. Services for Elaine will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Richard King officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice Home. Elaine Hohanshelt was born on February 20, 1933 in Boone, Iowa to Bernard Leroy and Beulah Marie Buss Hohanshelt. Elaine graduated from Boone High School in 1951 and then went to Iowa Methodist School of Nursing to get her degree as a Registered Nurse as well as attended St Francis to get her Masters in Nursing. On November 21, 1954, Elaine was united in marriage to Rollan Rollie Freel in Des Moines and to this union they had three children: Dave, Cindy and Tim. Elaines career took her to numerous schools in the Marshalltown area as the school nurse before retiring in 1993. Elaine was active in the First Presbyterian Church in the Womens Group as well as various Bible studies. Elaine and Rollie loved to travel and they would go to Colorado each summer for 22 years. Other highlights were going to Alaska, Michigan and London. Elaine loved music, train watching and riding the steam engine in Boone. Elaine especially loved her dogs, granddogs and cherished the time she spent with her family. Left to cherish Elaines memory is her husband of 59 years, Rollie. Children: Dave (Cheryl) Freel of Marshalltown, Cindy (Paul) Adams of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Tim (Anne) Freel of Stafford, Virginia. Grandchildren: Garrett, Mark, Krystal, Emily and Daniel and a brother Bernie (Becky) Hohanshelt. Elaine is also survived by her aunts and numerous other family members. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Beulah and her aunts and uncles.
