Bob Schultz, 83, of Marshalltown, died peacefully Saturday, January 8, in his home. Funeral services for Bob will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 13, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Following services, interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Visitation for Bob will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 12, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where Bobs family will be present to greet friends. Bob was born January 16, 1927, in Conrad, Iowa, the son of Albert and Florence (Johnson) Schultz. He was raised and educated in Conrad where he helped his family operate their family farm. Bob was united in marriage to Bette Gerrard on May 28, 1948, in Marshalltown, Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home on the family farm for a short time before moving to Marshalltown where they raised their family. After moving to town, Bob went to work as a bus driver for the City of Marshalltown. From 1950 1963 Bob worked for Fisher Controls as a machinist. He owned and operated Bobs Gulf gas station on the corner of Linn Street and First Avenue for several years. From 1958 1978, Bob and his wife Bette worked together as area agents for Iowa Parcel Service. At the time of his death, he was employed by Ron Fisher Furniture and the Times Republican. He also worked for Betts Hatchery, Chuck Smith Distributing, Harold Coxs Antennas, A.C. Nielsen and Hy-Vee Garden Center. Bob continued to farm through the summer of 2010. Bob loved to go fishing anywhere he could find a good spot. He enjoyed woodworking, creating stained glass work, collecting antique tractors, working on his cars, riding motorcycles, working in the apple orchard, and was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan. Bob also loved to travel, especially to the western area of the United States. He and his family visited Colorado, California, Minnesota, Arizona and Texas. Bob was fascinated with weather and scientific gadgets. There wasnt an item he hadnt either just read something about or just saw. Bob was a past member of the Conrad Lutheran Church, a member of the Mid-Iowa Antique Power Association and a past member of the Fisher Gun Club.Above all, Bob loved life and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his loving family. Bob is survived by his children: Doug (Val) Schultz of Marshalltown, Karen (Richard) McAlister of Cedar Falls, and Leanne (Milt) Clemenson of Ankeny, his siblings: Ted (Beverly) Schultz of Marshalltown and Esther Goos of Gladbrook, his sister-in-law Eileen Schultz of Grundy Center, his eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bette, his son Gregg, his brothers Ed (Lucille) Schultz, Bill Schultz, Paul Schultz and two brothers in their infancy.
