Carroll Wegner, 81, of Gladbrook, Iowa passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30.a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook, Iowa. Visitation will be on Monday, February 23, 2015, at the church in Gladbrook from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Phone 641-844-1234. Carroll Eugene Wegner was born on April 20, 1933, in the Gladbrook Hospital in Gladbrook, Iowa; he was the son of Walter and Clara (Henningson) Wegner. He attended School in the Gladbrook Community School District graduating with the class of 1951, and went on to attend Simpson College. Carroll served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. On April 10, 1954, Carroll was united in marriage to Marlys Siemens at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook, Iowa. Carroll and Marlys had lived on the farm their entire married lives. He farmed from 1955 until retiring in 1998, although he actively helped on the farm until present, he milked from 1955 until 1973. He also worked for Tama County ASCS for 35 years. Carroll was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ, and serving two terms on the Church Board, American Legion, 40 & 8, Lions Club, JCs, Chairman of Veterans Affairs Committee, President of American Legion of Iowa Foundation, Chairman of the Maple Hill Cemetery Board, Department of Iowa American Legion State Commander . Carroll was a very busy man but always had time for family and loved to go to his grandchildrens events from Concerts, to Rodeos, to BV track meets. Left to cherish Carrolls memory is his wife of 60 years, Marlys. of Gladbrook. Children: Joey(Michele) Wegner of Gladbrook, and Lee(David) Groth of Toledo. Grandchildren: Lindsey, Austin, Codi and Garrett Groth, and Brooke and Hunter Wegner, brother, Keith Wegner of Cherokee, Iowa and Kermit (Mary K.)
