Charles Lusher

Charles Spencer Lusher, 81, of Grinnell passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.   Funeral services for Charles will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 6 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Charles and his family.   Charles “Chuck” Lusher was born on July 30, 1937 in Spirit Lake, Iowa to Ralph and Janet Lucy (Arthur) Lusher the last of six children. After high school, Charles attended Iowa State (College) University and received his bachelor’s degree in Farm Operation. He was an assistant manager to Bruce Doane at Gilman, Iowa. On July 15, 1961, Charles was united in marriage to Donna Kellogg in Gilman at the Community Church. Shortly after, they moved to Greene, Iowa where he managed the Farmers Elevator. Four years later, they moved to Grinnell where he worked several jobs, and settled south of Grinnell to farm 80 acres. Charles was later an insurance adjuster, and served for ten years as Washington Township Treasurer.   He enjoyed time with his family which including annual trips to the Iowa State Fair. He was a big Cyclone fan, watched ISU football and had season tickets to the women’s basketball games for many years. Go Cyclones! He loved eating Donna’s cooking and baking. He shared his middle name with his grandson Ian and from the very beginning they were close and had a special bond. In retirement, every summer Charles would mow cemeteries and go camping with Donna and Ian. He belonged to the Iowa Excel Camping Club. He also taught Ian how to work with wood. Charles is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna. Children: Tammy (Sue Cosmos) Lusher, Sycamore, Illinois and Lori Bousson, Ames, Iowa. He is also survived by his grandson Ian, sister Lola Campney and several nieces and nephews.   Charles is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Janet, brother Richard Arthur, sister Rachel Ann, and twins Julia Mae (Judy) and Rev. James.
