Born Charlie Lawrence Davis on June 8th, 1915, in East Bend, North Carolina, he was the son of Tom and Mary (Hobson) Davis. When he was three years old, his family moved to Marshall County, Iowa, and he farmed on the same country mile block north of Clemons. He graduated from the Clemons High School in 1932. On December 27th, 1939, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Couser of Zearing at the Little Brown Church. Charlie will be fondly remembered by many for entertaining family and friends, collecting and trading antiques and anything connected to horses and mules. He loved telling jokes and remembered every one he heard. He had a special fondness for music and growing things crops, animals and gardens. He took pride in straight, clean rows of crops and a tidy farm place. One of his legacies is instilling a work ethic in his children who are eternally grateful and will love him forever. Even though Marshall County was home since age three, Charlie loved North Carolina. He made 70 plus trips there in his lifetime. In turn, many relatives and friends visited their home over the years. A special highlight was the annual Yadkin County pheasant hunters visit to Clemons. Left to cherish his memory are Evelyn, his loving wife of 73 years, son Danny (Donna) Davis, daughters: Ruth (Larry) Eggers, Dixie (Dennis) Walters and JoDee Davis, special daughter Iola (Robert) Batey, his grandchildren Todd and Troy (Lynn) Eggers and Greg Smith, great-grandchildren- Amber, Brianna and Dylan Smith and Jackson and McKenna Eggers and great-great-granddaughter Kirra Carson. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Clarice Davis and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, he rejoined his parents, brothers Ralph, Howard, Tom and Wayne, sisters Safrona Speas, Ruby Dauplaise and Pearl Christensen.
