Collene Kaye Anksorus

January 10, 1934 — January 20, 2018

Collene Anksorus, 84, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018, with family gathered around her. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Marshalltown Church of the Nazarene. A public visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 4-6:00 p.m.   Collene was born on January 10, 1934 in Deep River, Iowa to Alva and Inez (Floerchinger) McWilliams. After growing up on the family farm, she graduated high school and attended William Penn University.  She graduated with a degree in teaching and taught for several years in southeast Iowa and Marshall County.  She was united in marriage to William Anksorus, Sr. on May 11, 1957 in Deep River, Iowa. The newlyweds made their home near Marshalltown where they began their family. After teaching and raising her children, Collene had a long career with Sears, Roebuck & Co. and later worked for American Greetings.    Collene was best known for her devout faith in Christ.  She was an active member of the Marshalltown Church of the Nazarene.  Throughout her life, she taught children’s Sunday School and Caravan, served on the Church Board, and was passionate about Mission’s work.  Collene read her Bible daily, prayed for her family and friends, and gave generously of her time to others.  In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and embroidery, gardening, reading, spending time outdoors, and eating ice cream.  She was a loving grandmother who attended every activity she could.  Her gentle nature and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by the numerous family and friends she impacted with her life. Collene will be remembered by her children:  William (Lois) Anksorus Jr. of Granger, Indiana, Barry (Vicky) Anksorus of Ellsworth, Iowa, and Christine (Kevin) Ferneau of Marshalltown; her grandchildren Heidi Anksorus, Remington Anksorus, Matthew Ferneau, and Logan Ferneau; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.  She is preceded in death by William, her husband of 55 years, her parents Alva and Inez,  her sister Erma Ritchie,  and her brother Richard McWilliams.  Condolences can be made by visiting www.mitchellfh.com or by calling 641-844-1234, and memorial gifts can be directed to the family.
