Curtis Ohrt, 72, of Gladbrook, Iowa passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Iowa River Hospice House surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 17, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peace Church in Gladbrook. Memorials may be directed to the Family. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Curt and his Family. Phone 641-844-1234.Curtis Dean Ohrt was born on August 19, 1939 in Tama County. He was the son of Harry James and Viola (Sonkens) Ohrt. He attended school in the Gladbrook schools graduating with the class of 1957. Curt then served our country honorably in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1960. On October 22, 1960 Curt was united in marriage to Karen Shemenski in Martins Ferry, Ohio. They have lived in rural Gladbrook for nearly 51 years on the family farm operated by Curt. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Iowa Pork Producers, Jaycees, Town and Country Builders Association and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed restoring old tractors, fishing, camping, motorcycling, metal lathe work, remodeling - especially helping to build the Gladbrook City Center, and he could fix almost anything. He was very mechanically inclined, but most of all he loved to farm. He loved all of his grandchildren and enjoyed having them on the farm. Curt will be remembered for his sense of humor, willingness to help others, and loyalty to his wife, family and friends.Curts memory will be cherished by his wife, Karen of nearly 51 years; his children: Edward (Kathleen) Ohrt of Gladbrook, Ellyn (Mike) McDonald of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, and Deena (Mike) Ryan of Londonderry, New Hampshire, and ten grandchildren. His siblings are Maxine Kuhl of Red Wing, Minnesota, Gladyce Walker of Knoxville, Tennessee and Sharon (Jay Dee) Shouse of Gladbrook and many nieces and nephews.In death Curt rejoins his parents Harry and Viola and brothers-in-law Harold Kuhl and Robert Walker.
