Dan Fry

Paul Daniel (Dan) Fry, 74, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Southridge Specialty Care in Marshalltown. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 16th, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice or the Marshalltown Lions Club. Dan Fry, son of Clarence (Eddie) and Florence Fry, was born on August 10, 1941, at Onawa, Iowa. He graduated from Onawa High School in 1959. On December 5, 1970, Dan was united in marriage to Mary Jane (Sommerlot) Ruport in Omaha, Nebraska. Dan and Mary made their home in Marshalltown, residing most recently at Southridge Specialty Care, where they received wonderful care from the Southridge Staff and the Care Initiatives Hospice Team. Dan retired from the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, after 34 years of caring for our veterans. Dan had a good sense of humor, and easily won new friends. He loved spending time with his extended family. He also loved watching classic western movies, listening to country and gospel music, and anything to do with classic automobiles. Left to cherish Dans memory are his daughter, Danette (David) Hurkman; grandson, Justin Hurkman; brother, Tom Fry; sister-in-law, Ruth (Martin) Roelsgard; brother-in-law Don (Lorraine) Sommerlot; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents, Eddie and Florence Fry; and a sister, Carol (Bill) Hansen. Dan and Mary are now forever together in the presence of their Lord and Savior. Interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
