Daniel L. Upah, 54, of rural Garwin, died early Tuesday morning, April 26, at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30th (Dans 55th Birthday) at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Tama with Fr. Tom Braak officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Garwin Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. on Friday at the church. A memorial fund is being established. Born Daniel Louis Upah on April 30, 1956, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Francis and Elaine (Sievers) Upah. He graduated from the Garwin High School and later attended farm operations school at ISU.On April 19, 1980, he was united in marriage to Julie Cutler at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garwin. They made their home near Garwin. Dan spent most of his adult life farming the land and raising cattle. He was also employed for 13 years with Wolverine Technologies (now CertainTeed). Dan was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garwin, Pheasants Forever, Whitetails Unlimited, and a former Garwin Lions Club member. He enjoyed helping Denny Dostal with rodeos, riding Harleys, time with family and friends, vacations with the family, cattle drives, and safety meetings with friends. Most of all, he treasured his family.Left to mourn his loss are Julie, his loving wife of 31 years, three children: Alicia (Anthony) Hodges and their son Ashton of Ankeny, Amy (Jeff) Williams and their daughter Eva of Marshalltown and Angela Upah now attending ISU in Ames, his mother Elaine Upah of rural Garwin, brothers and sisters: Rebecca (James) McDowell of Cedar Rapids, Gregory (Rose Mary) Upah of Dallas, TX. Jayne (Robert) Kienzle of Garwin, Martin (Cheryl) Upah of Ft. Worth, TX. and Michael (Kristi) Upah of Huxley, Iowa, his mother-in-law Vivian Cutler of Garwin, as well as many nieces, nephews, the Cutler family and friends. In death, Dan rejoined his father Francis, grandparents Alma and Lee Sievers and Louis and Rose Upah, father-in-law Floyd Cutler, Sr., brother-in-law Floyd Cutler, Jr. and special family members Trent Rohach and niece Denise Laughlin, his horse Aztec and most recently his loyal 15 year old dog, Scooter.
