Darryll Dewey, 80, of Marshalltown, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Windsor Manor in Grinnell, Iowa. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation for Darryll will be held from 1:00 p.m., until time of services. Memorial contributions may be directed in his name to the Animal Rescue League.Darryll was born April 13, 1932, in Rhodes, Iowa, the son of Edgar and Virginia (Phillips) Dewey. Their family lived in Rhodes until he was seven years old at which time they moved to Marshalltown. Darryll attended the Marshalltown School system before enlisting with the United States Army during the Korean War period. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned home to Marshalltown. He was united in marriage to Vanita Shank on July, 17, 1951, in Eldora, Iowa. To this union, three children were born: Lori, Melissa and Mike. Throughout his lifetime Darryll was employed for over nineteen years by Pepsi and worked for the railroad, Harkers, the City of Marshalltown and retired from Marshall County. He will be remembered as a man who could fix anything, and was even nicknamed Dewey do it all by his friends. Darryll and Vanita loved to go for a ride in their truck every evening. Together they had the same route which traveled the Mormon Ridge area northwest of Marshalltown. Darryll and his family took many trips to Minnesota where they enjoyed camping, boating and fishing. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing the guitar. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family and will be greatly missed.Darryll is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vanita, of Marshalltown, his children: Lori (Jim) Sinwell of Charles City, Iowa, Melissa (Rocky) Monk of Marshalltown and Mike (Jill) Dewey of Grand River, Iowa, his nine grandchildren: Brandon (Jesse) Dewey, Quintin (Samantha) Dewey, Autumn(Zack) Fraker, Alexis(Joe) Dewey, Lacey (Bobby) Perisho, Katie (Lance Acee) Monk, Joseph Noel, Nick Noel, Mitch (Jen) Noel, his ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and friends. Darryll was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gerald Dewey, his sisters: Shirley (Steve) Shank and Lorraine Dewey and his great-grandson Simon Dewey.
