Richard Dick DeWees, 59, longtime Marshalltown chef and restaurateur, died Saturday, April 14, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest with conjoined full-military services by the American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post #46 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839, all of Marshalltown. A luncheon will be held immediately following the burial at the American Legion Hall on South 6th Street. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to his family. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Dick and his family. Ph. 641-844-1234.Born on June 16, 1952, in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Raymond and Pauline (Wilson) DeWees. He graduated from the Ankeny High Schools class of 1970. He attended the University of Wisconsin and later served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1972-1974.On November 17, 1978, he was united in marriage to Linda Miller in Ames. They made their home in that area until moving to Marshalltown in 1985. Dick was the executive chef at the Elmwood Country Club before owning and operating Caddyshack Pub and Restaurant in the American Legion. Dick later was owner and operator of Memories Banquet and Reception Hall on Lincolnway in Marshalltown and was currently district manager for United Vending and Food Service at the JBS plant.Dick was a member of the American Legion (former vice commander), VFW, American Legion 40/8, and will be remembered by many for a good joke, great hospitality and love of family and friends.Left to cherish his memory are Linda, his loving wife of 33 years, his sons: Matthew (Laura) of Waseca, MN and Adam (Heather McCurtain) of Portland, OR, sisters: Jeannine (Ed) Hamilton of Chula Vista, CA and Barbara Duckett of Ionia, IA, as well as nieces, nephews and many, many friends.In death, Dick rejoined his parents.
