Donald Dean Montgomery, 69, of Vine Avenue, rural Marshalltown, died Wednesday morning, September 19th, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center while in their care, his family and the Iowa River Hospice.Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 24th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Kim Wilson of the Green Mountain UCC officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow by the ladies group of the Green Mountain UCC at the hospitality room of the funeral home. Born on May 4th, 1938, near Deep River/Montezuma in rural Poweshiek County, he was one of three children born to Paul Haggard and Mary Melissa (Murr) Montgomery. He received his education through the 4th grade in the area of his birth and then attended school in Oskaloosa, graduating from the Oskaloosa High Schools Class of 1956. Donald served our country proudly in the United States Army for three years. He served as a desk sergeant in occupied Korea. On January 6th, 1968, he was united in marriage to Janice Cox at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. They have resided at their home near Marshalltown and he was employed at Fisher Controls as a designer/draftsman for 38 years. Mr. Montgomery was a member of the Green Mountain United Church of Christ, the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed the outdoors, go-karts, fishing and his family. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 39 years, Janice, his son Daniel (Catherine) Montgomery of Clinton, Iowa, and sisters-in-law: Frances Montgomery of Sigourney, Iowa, and Bettie Montgomery of Delta, Iowa and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. In death he has rejoined his parents and brothers Dale and Paul.
