Donald E. Myers, 87, of Marshalltown, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at his home, after a short illness, with his loving family at his side.Memorial services for Don will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 17, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later date. A memorial visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, January 16, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where Dons family will be present to greet friends. Don was born October 23, 1923, in Eldora, Iowa, the son of Clara (Lentz) and Roscoe Myers. Don was raised and educated in Eldora and graduated from the Eldora High School with the class of 1942. In 1944, Don joined the United States Army. He was stationed in both the Phillipines and Japan during World War II and received his honorable discharge in 1946. On August 20, 1948, Don was married to Alberta Mathews. Following their marriage they made their home in Eldora until 1965 when their family moved to Marshalltown where he was a carpenter and bricklayer for many years. In 1969, Don went to work for the Marshalltown school system, retiring in 1986. Don enjoyed a hard days work, vacationing out west and Florida and he especially looked forward to his daily walks with his wife Alberta. He was a very humble man who enjoyed working on home projects and had the ability to make something out of nothing. Above all Don will be remembered and dearly missed as loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather to his family. Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alberta, his six children: Donald (Ranae) Myers Jr. of Sand Point, Idaho, Mike Myers of Spirit Lake, Idaho, Becky (Terry) Metz of Marshalltown, Dixie Stipanovich of Cedar Rapids, David (Susan) Myers of Marshalltown and Bill Myers of Marshalltown, his 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, his sister-in-law Jeanette Myers, several nieces and nephews and his best friend of many years, Lyle Wall of Marshalltown. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Carl, Irvin and Junior Goo and his daughter-in-law Cindy (Mike) Myers.
