Doris I. Heng, 95, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April26, 2017, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with her loving family by her side. Funeral services for Doris will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 1st, 2017, at Elim Lutheran Church with Pastor Karen Cluts officiating. Public visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Doris will be laid to rest at Strand Lutheran Cemetery in Dunbar following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Doriss name to Iowa River Hospice or Elim Lutheran Church. Doris Irene Olson was born on December 24, 1921, in Dunbar, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Myrtle (Bryngelson) Olson. She was raised and educated in the Dunbar School District, graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1939. She also played basketball as one of the Ten pretty girls from the Village School. On May 25, 1941, Doris was united in marriage to Edward Ole Heng at the Strand Lutheran Church in Dunbar, Iowa. From this union four children were born: Charlene, David, James and Juli. After 33 years on the family farm, the couple moved to Marshalltown. Doris was a hard working woman and loved helping Edward on the farm, gardening and taking care of the family home. Doris was a proud member of the Strand Lutheran Ladies Aide and Gilman Ladies Club. She had a passion for knitting, word puzzles, gardening, sewing, antiques, camping, fishing trips to Canada, and traveling. Doris and Edward traveled to Norway, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada. They also spent 28 winters in Alamo, Texas. Left to cherish Doriss memory are her children: Charlene Hulin, David (Nancy) Heng, James (Yolanda) Heng and Juli (Gary) Buck; (19) grandchildren; (30) great-grandchildren (6) great great-grandchildren; siblings: Robert Olson, Jean Johnson, Joan Dudek, Sharon Carrillo and Howard Olson as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother: Carroll Olson; two son-in-laws: Jim Hulin and Steve Baer as well as her special friend, Clair Devick.
