Doris Hayes, 81, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family, on April 4, 2015, and under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2015, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Doris and her family. Phone 641-844-1234. Doris LaVonne Ward was born in Weeping Water, Nebraska, on June 20, 1933 to John Ward and Blanche (Renner) Ward. She attended Louisville Nebraska High School. On July 31, 1949 she married Monte Bud Hayes in Council Bluffs, Iowa; Doris and Monte relocated to Marshalltown to raise their children, Gregg, Monte Jr., Roger, Joe and Dian. Doris wore many different colored hats throughout her life, she not only raised kids, and she was a partner for Montes electrical company and was described as the CEO of the Hayes family home. Doris loved feeding the wildlife and knew the species of every bird that was fortunate enough to fly be her home to be fed. Through the years, Doris fed many guests and made amazing chicken & noodles, chocolate cake and potato salad. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Gregg (Toni) Hayes of San Antonio, Texas, Monte Jr. (Colleen) Hayes of Jessup, Iowa, Roger (Sue) Hayes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Joe (Chris) Hayes of Haverhill, IA, Dian (Glen) Ferneau, of Marshalltown. Her grandchildren; Jenny, Jaci, Julia, Shawn, Brian, Justin, Jessie, Kareen, Garrett, Jason, Andy, Kyle, Lesa, Bret, Drew, 22 great-grandchildren, sister, Betty Wagoner, of Oregon and companion Bill Tempelmeyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Blanche Ward, husband, Monte Bud Hayes, and her sister Jeri Feighner.
