Heaven is shining just a little brighter as it gained another angel much too soon. Dustin Charles Hofert, 33, of Nolanville, Texas, formerly of Rhodes, Iowa, passed away early Sunday morning, January 31, 2021 in Nolanville. A visitation for Dustin will be Saturday, February 20th from 4pm to 7pm at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, 1209 Iowa Ave W., Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be on Sunday, February 21st, at 2pm followed by full military honors provided by the Combined VFW/ American Legion Honor Guard from the surrounding area. There will be a time of sharing for those attending the service. Dustin attended West Marshall Community School, graduating with the class of 2005. August 31, 2005 he began his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Ozarks, Missouri, where he began his honorable service in the United States Army. Dustin was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas and served 4 years, including tours in Iraq and Afghanistan for Iraqi Freedom. He fell in love with Texas and has resided there since, settling in Nolanville where he worked most recently as armed security. Dustin will best be remembered by his family and many, many friends for his free spirit, insatiable laugh and ever-present smile. He was a “gentle giant,” always cracking jokes and taking care of everybody. Dustin enjoyed riding his motorcycle “where rubber meets the road.” He adored his nieces and nephews, as well has his fur-baby, Chloe. Those left to cherish his memory include his parents: Dale and Marilyn Hofert, Janette and Tom Dessel and Julie and Gerald “Buzz” Ball; his siblings: Dylan (Rachel) Hofert, Joshua (Tracy) Sullivan and Ryan (Lauren) Zallar; paternal grandmother, Claudine Hofert; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and countless military and Nolanville friends. Dustin is preceded in death by his grandparents: Dale Hofert and Charles and Bettie Hayne, as well as several cousins.
