Elisabeth Catlett, 68, of Marshalltown, died Sunday morning, August 31st, at her home while in care of her loving family, the Iowa River Hospice and her nurse, Michelle. Her death came peacefully at 10:50 a.m. Memorial services celebrating her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 5th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Riverside Cemetery. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments to immediately follow the burial back at the funeral home. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Born on November 15th, 1939, in Bochum, Germany, she was the daughter of Georg Aloysius and Christine Elisabeth (Eschweiler) Zapp. She attended school in Germany. Elisabeth was married to Richard Slocum and was blessed with eight children- Renate (Russ) Tenold of Northwood, Iowa, Regina (Joe) Nelson of Melbourne, Robert Slocum of Marshalltown, Rosemarie (Tim) McMullen of Marshalltown, Renee (Nathan) Long of Davenport, Robin Hunt (fianc Tony McMullen) of Marshalltown, Ricky (Trina) Slocum of Marshalltown and Rita (Jim) Keislar of State Center. She later married Lyle Waters and Gary Catlett who both preceded her in death. She was also blessed with 19 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brothers Aloys Zapp and Hans Baumgart in Germany, and numerous friends. Mrs. Catlett treasured her family, watching Lawrence Welk, dancing, and Friday Night Fish Frys at the Moose Lodge. She was employed at Stones Restaurant as a cook and the Embers, did babysitting and taught herself English from watching TV. In death she has rejoined her parents, son Herman Baumgart and her husbands.
