Elwood R. Harvey

Elwood Harvey, 77, a native of Marshalltown, died peacefully Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Southridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born Aug. 31,1934, he was the son of Charles and Mary Harvey. On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Marcelline Nutter. They made their home in Marshalltown where Elwood, affectionately known as Woody, practiced family dentistry for 40 years, retiring in 1998 to enjoy his family, friends and many hobbies. Woody graduated top of his class from Marshalltown High School class of 1952 and completed his college education at the University of Iowa where he graduated with honors from the college of dentistry in 1959. He was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association, the Iowa Dental Association, a member of the University of Iowa Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Organization and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.Woody will be dearly missed by all that knew him and be remembered for his patience, compassion, wisdom, sense of humor, incredible golf game and love of family and friends. He is survived by his wife Marcelline Harvey; his three children: Pamela Hoglan, of Marshalltown, Susan Silengo, of Grand Junction, Colo., Grant (Kathy) Harvey, of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren: Josh Hoglan, Charles Silengo, Jessica Silengo and Madeline Harvey; and his younger sister, Betty (Jim) Barlow. The memorial service and reception will be held at St. Marys Catholic Church, 9 West Linn St., Marshalltown, IA, 50158, on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, per Woodys request, memorial donations may be directed to: The University of Iowa Hospitals, Memorial Fund Research, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, The Bowen Science Building, Iowa City, Ia., 52242-1109.
