Erma L. Horn, 90, formerly of 708 Ratcliffe Dr., died Wednesday, September 19th, at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center where she has resided since December. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 24th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Gail Thiessen of the Central Christian Church officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be provided by the ladies of the Central Christian Church. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Erma and her family. Ph 844-1234. She was born in southern Iowa (Appanoose County) on December 5th, 1916, to Roy Alfred and Zella Mae (King) Beach. She received her education in the country schools graduating from the Moulton High School in Moulton, Iowa. Erma married Glenn Horn on March 9th, 1935, in Kirksville, MO. They lived in southern Iowa, leaving the farm in 1942. In 1944, when Glenn was drafted by Uncle Sam, she came to Laurel to stay with her folks. In 1945, she was hired by the Laurel Telephone Company as switchboard operator, leaving in 1950. She later worked as salesclerk at the Book Nook then Marshall Office Supply in Marshalltown, retiring in 1978.Mrs. Horn was a member of the Central Christian Church in Marshalltown and the American Legion Auxiliary in Laurel. Survivors include two sons: James D. (Mary Ann) Horn of Marshalltown and Jerry E. (Mary A.) Horn of North Platte, NE., four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband Glenn in 2001, her parents and two brothers, Eldon and L. Rex Beach.
