Eugene R. 'Gene' Shuey

Eugene R. Gene Shuey, age 86, died Friday, February 20, 2015 at Valley View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Eldora, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to services. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Gene and his family. Eugene was born on December 21, 1928 in Grundy Center, Iowa to John Samuel and Grace B. (Ford) Shuey. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. On April 8, 1979, Gene was united in marriage to Darlene (Kaufmann) Hill at the Alice Church of God in Conrad, Iowa. Gene worked as a mechanic for Van Wechel Motors in Grundy Center for many years. He enjoyed 3-D puzzles, search a word books, working on cars, camping, fishing and woodworking. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Darlene Shuey of Conrad, IA; children: Cheryl (Randy) Kriz of Grundy Center, Iowa; Darrel (Barbara) Shuey of Grundy Center, Iowa; Dean (Karen) Shuey of Grundy Center, Iowa; Valorie (Allan) Hansen of Holland, Iowa; Darwin (Becki) Shuey of Grundy Center, Iowa; step-children: Richard (LaRae) Hill of Iowa City, Iowa; James (Deb) Hill of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; Debra (Curt) Mackie of Grundy Center, Iowa; Tammi (Mitch) Woosley of Marshalltown, Iowa; twenty- seven grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren; and his sister Nadine Barfels of Hudson, Iowa. In death Gene rejoins his parents, step-son Kevin Hill, and his great grandson, Emmett Hansen.
