Gary Alan Knox, 80 of Melbourne, Iowa, passed away on August 4, 2014, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Graveside services for all friends and family will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marshalltown at 11:00 AM, following the visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice Home. Knox was born on February 10, 1934, in Marshalltown to Marvin and Dorothy (Elliot) Knox. Gary graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1952 and went on to attend Iowa State University. On August 12, 1954, Gary was united in marriage to Beverly Isgrig in Marshalltown and to this union three children were born: David, Denise, and Doug. Gary served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. Gary had been employed as a Director, Sales and Marketing with Marshalltown Instruments until 1980 and then he opened up his own business, Process Equipment Company, which he was still involved in. After his wife, Beverly, passed away in 1999, Gary married Marjorie DeMarco in 2001. Gary was a long time member of the YMCA in Marshalltown. Garys hobbies included running, hunting and fishing, Corvettes, collecting guns, and raising and racing Greyhounds. Left to cherish his memory are his children: David (Pam) Knox of Marshalltown; Denise (David) Alexander of Melbourne, Iowa; and Doug (Mary) Knox of Marshalltown; his second wife Marjorie DeMarco of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Angela (Jake) Pelham, Amanda Knox, David Alexander, Danielle Alexander, Dominique (Curtis) Behrens, Dalton Alexander, and Brian Yordy; and four great grandchildren. Gary is also survived by his siblings: Tony (Barbara) Knox of Peoria, Illinois, and Barbara Armstrong of Lake Worth, Florida. Gary is preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly; his parents ,Marvin and Dorothy; and a son in infancy.
