Gary was born on June 20, 1953 in at St. Thomas Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa to parents Lester and Betty (Coulter) Wehrman. In his youth, he was a member of 4H and enjoyed performing in school plays and musicals. After graduating from SEMCO in 1971, he went on to attend Marshalltown Community College. He met the love of his life, Rebecca Filloon, at an all-night event at Skatetown. The couple was united in marriage on June 22, 1973 in Tama, Iowa. They made their home in Marshalltown, where they raised their family.
Gary was one of the hardest workers you’ll ever meet. In his early years, he was an EMT at Marshalltown Area Community Hospital (MACH). He then dedicated 35 years to Emerson-Fisher Controls while also owning and operating Wehrman Electric. He was a member of the UAW Local 893, Elks Club and electrical unions. Electrical work was a job, but it was also his passion. He also loved hobby work. Gary would help anyone who needed it and genuinely enjoyed acting as “project supervisor” for his children’s remodels. Everything he did for others was truly a labor of love. More than anything else, Gary loved his family and his grandchildren were so important to him.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 49 years, Becky; his children: Jason (Tina) Wehrman of Ankeny, IA and Crystal (Jeremy) Cremeans of Toledo, IA; five grandchildren: Jenna Cremeans of Waterloo, IA, Jordyn Cremeans of Toledo, IA, Wesley Wehrman, Cooper Wehrman and Elin Wehrman, all of Ankeny, IA; great-grandson, Weston Cremeans; his mother, Betty Wehrman; siblings: Larry (Cathy) Wehrman and Sherry Wehrman, both of Laurel and several nieces and nephews.
In eternal life, Gary is reunited with his father, Lester and his nephew, Timmy.
