Gordon Charles Clemens, 93, died December 23, 2018 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad, Iowa. Services will be held at the Union Community Church, Union, Iowa with Pastor Rick Schill officiating on December 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. A private family burial will follow after services. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Union Community Church where family will be present to greet friends. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at a later date. Gordon was born on August 1, 1925 to Charles and Anna (Yenter) Clemens in Union, Iowa. He married Marvyl Ann Riggins on December 22, 1947. Gordon served our country honorably in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class during World War II from 1943-1946 where he was stationed in Guam and various locations. One of Gordon’s proud moments was being selected for the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. recognizing World War II veterans. Gordon worked at the Iowa State Training School for Boys in Eldora, Iowa as the graphic arts instructor and retired from there in 1987 after 31 years.Gordon was a member of the Union Community Church for over 60 years. He was a member of the South Hardin Kiwanis for over 30 years serving as President for one of those years. Gordon was a member of the American Legion Post 0255 for 40 years. He was a member of the Union Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 15 years. Gordon enjoyed making latch hook pictures of wildlife animals. Gordon and Marvyl loved to travel and took vacations to sites around the U.S. He loved watching sporting events, especially women’s softball and Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball. Gordon is survived by children: Candy (George) Wait of Union, IA, Randy (Dianne) Clemens of Pensacola, FL, and Barry (Peg) Clemens of Union, IA; grandchildren: Paula (Perry Johnson) Wait of Lander, WY, Toni Wait of Union, IA, Brandon (Tiffany) Clemens of Minneapolis, MN, Ryan Clemens of Union, IA; Curtis (Lynette) Clemens of San Tan Valley, AZ, Tim (Jennifer) Clemens of Gilbert, AZ; great-grandchildren: Dylan Clemens, Brock Kinney, Brianna Clemens, and Sydney Clemens as well as several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. In death Gordon rejoins his wife of 70 years Marvyl, his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
