Gordon A (Sam) Evans, 86, of Brooklyn passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa. Funeral services for Gordon will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Friday, November 13 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Gordon Evans was born on September 9, 1929 in Weldon, Iowa to James and Abbie Lenore Byers Evans. Gordon graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1947. After school, Gordon worked for McGregor Furniture for a short time. On November 12, 1949, Gordon was united in marriage to Faye June Davis in Toledo, Iowa. Gordon and Faye resided in Marshalltown, Johnston and Holiday Lake in Brooklyn. Gordon served his country honorably in the United States Army in the Korean War from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1953. Gordon was a Superintendent for Breiholz until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of Carpenters Local 106, VFW and the American Legion Post 294 in Brooklyn. Gordon enjoyed fishing either at his cabin on the Des Moines River or at Holiday Lake, gardening, helping stray dogs in need and in his later years enjoyed driving his golf cart around the lake and visiting neighbors. Gordon is survived by his children: Jeff (Geri) Evans of Preston, Iowa, Greg Evans of Grimes, Iowa and Amy (Gary) Hunerdosse of Bondurant, Iowa. Grandchildren: Jason (Jackie) Evans, Cory Evans, Nicole Evans, Faythe Evans, Brandon Hansen, Kimberly (Dave) Hunerdosse-Trabilsy, Amanda (Jason) Maring and Justin (Lindsay) Hunerdosse. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, sister-in-laws Glenna Evans, Jan Evans, Louise Johnson-Evans and his nieces and nephews. Gordon is preceded in death by his wife Faye, parents James and Abbie, three brothers and two nephews.
