Gordon Carroll Snyder, age 85, of Le Grand, passed away on Wednesday, November 24th, at Accura in Marshalltown in the care of the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 30th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with his grandson, Wade Snyder, having the honor of conducting his grandpa’s service. Visitation will be held one-hour prior. All in attendance are encouraged to wear your favorite team (especially if it is the Cowboys or Hawkeyes) or casual attire. Born on June 15th, 1936, in Lucerne, MO., he was the first born child of Gordon E. and Virginia L. (Morlan) Snyder. While working at Manning Chevrolet in Marshalltown, the love of his life walked in to have her car serviced. Little did she know, Gordon told the other salesman to direct her to him. Jeanette Sellers and Gordon were united in marriage on October 20th, 1972, in Rockford, IL. The couple recently marked 49 years together. Gordon worked hard his entire life. His early years were as a mechanic and a car salesman. In the 1970’s, he began working for Eaton Co. Around 1981, he moved to Amarillo, TX, and began working for Bell Gas until their closing. They then moved to Manhattan, KS and retired. At that time, they moved back to his favorite city, Amarillo, until coming home to Iowa in 2007 to be near his mother and family. He finished his working career as a courtesy driver for Jensen Ford. Those left to cherish his memory are Jeanette “Jan” Snyder, his loving wife of 49 years, of Le Grand; his children: Marian Buchanan of Marshalltown, Virginia (Brian) Warner of Pflugerville, TX, Gordon Paul (Nan) Snyder of Lubbock, TX, Allen Snyder (Kathy Haloupek) of Marshalltown, Michele (Rick) Earley of Marshalltown; step-son, Kenn (Billie) Sellers of Salina, KS and grandchildren: Mark, Reggie, Randy, Michael, Megan, Brandon, Kirsten, Monica, Wade, Jeffrey, Ross, Brienna, Samantha, Austin, Jimmy, Ryan, Russ and Andrea as well as many great and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Patti Conrad, and beloved Yorkies-Benji and Missy.
