Helen (Mrs. Harold) Vaux, 79, of Union, died Friday night, November 23, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, at the Union Community Church with Pastor Rick Schill officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 4-6:00 p.m. on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Foundation in her memory. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born Helen Vernon on December 2, 1932, in Indianola, Iowa, she was the daughter and one of six children born to Howard and Lois (Boyd) Vernon. She graduated from the Union High Schools Class of 1951. On May 20, 1951, she was united in marriage to Harold Vaux at the Christian Church in Union. They made their home in Union all of their married lives. Mrs. Vaux was employed at Heart of Iowa Telephone Co-Op in Union and retired from Marshalltown Savings and Loan, both with 15 years of dedicated service. Helen was a member of the Union Community Church, former member of the Eastern Star and treasured her children, grandchildren and great-grandkids. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, cooking and pets. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 61 years, Harold; three children: Mary (Steve) Gile of Marshalltown, Gary (Deanna) Vaux of Union and Jo (Al) Bergman of Union; six grandchildren and their families: Alicia (Dave) Smith with Hunter, Brayden and Tanner of Marshalltown, Chad (Christina) Gile with Raylee and Ryder of Marshalltown, Kyle (Megan) Bergman with Cameron, Morgan and Parker of Conrad, Katie (John) Richter, Scott (Holly) Bergman of Des Moines and Brett (Liz) Bergman of Denver, Iowa; her siblings: Howard (Alma) Vernon of Coralville, Iowa, Shirley (Bud) Berry of Des Moines, Dorn (the late Janice) Vernon in Oklahoma and Rita Pratt of Des Moines, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In death, Helen rejoined her parents and brother, Robert Bob Vernon.
