James Jim Wallace, 82, of Marshalltown passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Military Honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #839 and by American Legion Post in the Marshalltown area. James Elroy Wallace was born on January 5, 1934, in Iowa City, Iowa; he was the son of Wilburn and Olive (Proctor) Wallace. He attended School and graduated from the Grinnell Community School District. Jim served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958. On March 26, 1955, Jim was united in marriage to Phyllis Low and they lived there entire married life in the Marshalltown, area. Jim had worked at Lennox, Marshalltown Instruments for 17 years and worked as a night janitor at Marshalltown Community College for 8 years retiring in 1996. Jim was a musician and had played in a Country Western band for 30 years, he enjoyed camping and loved his ping pong but most of all he loved and cherished his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Phyllis, children, Mike Wallace of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Brenda Lukehart of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Patty (Bryon) Bessman of Green Mountain, Iowa and Carolyn (Scott) Adkins of Marshalltown, Iowa 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In death Jim rejoins his parents Wilburn and Olive, Brother Richard and granddaughter, Ashley Wallace.
