Jean Carson

Jean Ilene Carson (Hicks), 92, of Marshalltown, passed away at Bickford Cottage on October 27, 2016 with her loving family by her side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 31st at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. A public visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made in Jeans name to Bickford Cottage of Marshalltown or Care Initiatives Hospice. Jean was educated in the Marshalltown school system and graduated in 1942. She then married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Carson, in San Diego, California on August 5, 1943. The couple would raise four children in the Marshalltown area and devote their lives to their family. In Jeans free time she loved to play bridge and read as much as she could. Jean was one for crossword puzzles and going to the casino to play bingo. Left to cherish Jeans memory are her husband of 73 years, Eugene; her children: Mike Carson, Carol (Darl) Monk, Barb (Jok) Nicholson, and Tom (Tina) Carson; grandchildren: Brant, Corey, Pat, Andy, Ryan, Jason, and Derek; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale and Richard Hicks, and several nieces and nephews. In passing, Jean rejoins her parents, Dale and Bernice Hicks; her stepmother, Irma Hicks; brother, Jerry Hicks; and sister, Carol Crouse.
