Jean LaRue Hanus, 92, passed away on March 18, 2016 at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown surrounded by her loving family. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held at the Embers Retirement Center in Marshalltown at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Jean was born on September 24, 1923 to her parents, Basil and Gladys (Kellogg) Winders in Marshalltown. Jean finished her schooling in the Marshalltown area and went on to serve our country honorably. She was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 until 1945. After her service, Jean was a very proud member of the American Legion and a member of the Womens Military Auxiliary. She was also an extremely proud mother raising four children. In Jeans free time she could have been found at flea markets and antique stores always searching for rare treasures. Jeans faith was a major factor in her life and held membership at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown for over 70 years. Left to cherish Jeans memory are her children: Christina Jenna (Paul) Hiratzka of Colorado; Russ (Sherri) Hanus of Texas; Linda (Phil) Tiehen of Colorado and Barbara Hanus of Texas; grandchildren: Tiffany, Mathew, Jayme, Cory, Megan, and Emily; great grandchildren: Payton, Savanna, Dominick, and Natalie. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Basil and Gladys (Kellogg) Winders; and her two sisters, Connie Severson and Mildred Oberlander.
