Jennie Latham

Jennie (Mrs. Ernest) Latham, 86, of LeGrand, died Monday, December 22nd, at the MMSC.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 27th, at the LeGrand Friends Church with Pastor Alan Mullikin officatiing. She will be laid to rest in the LeGrand Friends Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the church. A memorial fund is being established and will be directed to care of the cemetery, church building fund, Iowa River Hospice or to your choice of charity. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234. Born Jennie M. McAteer on April 30th, 1922, near Grinnell, she was the daughter of David and Sarah (Campbell) McAteer. She grew up in the area of her birth and attended country school until moving to Gilman while in 5th grade and graduated from the Gilman High School in 1940. Jennie later graduated from the Central Iowa Business College in 1942 and worked at Marshalltown Manufacturing and Lennox.On December 17th, 1943, she was united in marriage to Ernest D. Latham at the 1st Friends Church in Marshalltown. The couple made their home in Marshalltown and LeGrand except for two years when he was transferred to Texas with Lennox.Mrs. Latham was a member of the LeGrand Friends Church, the USFW and the LeGrand Lioness Club. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, sowing, quilting, crocheting, craft work and camping for over 25 years.Surviving is Ernie, her loving husband of 65 years, daughters: Judy (Don) Roberts of Urbandale, Jacque (Tim) Sanderson of Keystone, and son Dennis (Beth) Latham of Watauga, Texas, six grandchildren: Sharee (Joe) Rubio, James (Brenda) Milstead, Nikki (Jason) Steffen, Ryan (Julie) Sanderson, Colby Latham and Hunter Latham, three great-grandchildren Grace Rubio, Lily Steffen and Vincent Rubio.In death, Jennie rejoined her parents and an infant son.
