James F. (Jim) Dillon, age 80, of Marshalltown, entered into eternal rest on July 21, 2009, at Iowa River Hospice House. Jim was the second resident of the new hospice home. Jim received his early Christian training through the loving hands of his mother and father. As death closes Jims life, he does believe that Jesus is the Son of God and through him he will receive Eternal Life. Memorial services will be at 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Jim has donated his body to the Mayo Clinic Department of Anatomy. Memorial donations in Jims name may be directed to: Shoes That Fit, c/o On Media, 24 East Main St., Marshalltown IA 50158. (Hammond) Dillon on October 19, 1928, in Union, Iowa. He attended the Union Community School and graduated in 1946. He was married to Beverly Parsons in 1948. There were two children born to this union, Marla Kay and Jana Elizabeth. In 1972, Jim married Arlene Rusty Wegman. This union brought three stepchildren, Diana Yassin, Terry Wegman, and Judy (Larry) Tow. Jim and Rusty have made their home in Marshalltown and Arizona. While living in Arizona, Jim enjoyed playing shuffleboard. His prize trophy is show today.Jim farmed. He spent two summers working in Alaska and spent some 35 years as a Fisher Controls employee. He was a member of UAW Local 893 and served as President of the Local in the mid-1960s. Jim enjoyed most sports. He also loved fishing for rainbow trout, walleye, and northern. He enjoyed his grandchildren and spent his energy on helping them and his friends.As noted, Jim asks that your donations go to Shoes That Fit. Jim remembers using cardboard in his shoes when the soles got thin. He still asked Rusty how her shoes were before he threw a cereal box away.Left to cherish his memories are his wife, his children, his 13 grandchildren, and his 12 very special great-grandchildren. Also, his sisters Eugena Watson, Marjorie (Don) Cobb, and brother Lewis Dillon. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Joe, and his sister Leota (Merle) Duffy.
