James Jim Melde, 89, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Central Iowa Health Care in Marshalltown, surrounded by his loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at St Henrys Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil to follow at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Haverhill, Iowa. Military honors will be provided by the combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Jim and his family. For condolences or questions please visit: www.mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234. James Chris Melde was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the son of George and Louise (Nagle) Melde. He attended School in La Crosse School District graduating from Aquinas High School. Jim served honorably in the United States Army from April 1945 until December 1946. On July 12, 1958, Jim was united in marriage with Sharon Olson in La Crosse. They resided in La Crosse until Jim accepted a position with Marshalltown Instruments in 1961. After leaving there, he worked at St Henrys Catholic Church where he and Sharon have been members since 1961. Jim loved watching sports, especially when the Packers or Hawkeyes were playing. He loved his job of being a father and grandfather and could be counted on to photograph every family gathering. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Sharon, his children: Paul (Kathleen) Melde of Des Moines, Iowa; Pete (Vivian) Melde of Anchorage, Alaska; Eric Melde of New Providence, Iowa; Dave (Chris) Melde of Marshalltown; Patti (Jim) Hannam of Marshalltown; Kris (Jim) Sams of Conrad, Iowa; Anne (Eric)Winch of Dubuque, Iowa; and Matt Melde of Anchorage, Alaska, as well as 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law Delores Melde of Tomah, Wisconsin and Mary Melde-Wieske of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George Jug, Robert, Norman, Fred Chub, Jack, Donald, Edward, and sisters Carmen and Marion.
