John Ellis Baker, 69, of Marshalltown, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. He courageously fought colon cancer for 27 months. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, 1209 Iowa Avenue West, with Pastor Dorthy Banzhaf officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Visitation at Mitchell Family Funeral Home will be on Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later time or to the Iowa River Hospice Home. John Baker was born on September 27, 1947 at his grandmothers home in Liscomb, Iowa, to Claude Baker Jr. and Margaret Behrens. During his youth he attended the Beman-Conrad school system where he later graduated 1965. John was united in marriage to his first wife Deborah Creigh and to this union three children were born; Daniel, Mark and Kristina, they later divorced. John later married Patty Waite on April 1, 1989 in Marshalltown. He worked for Fisher Control for 38 years, retiring in 2004. John was the President of Union Local 893 from 2000 to 2004. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his friends at Lake Rathbun, building bird houses, canning, and loved to BS with his friends at The Spot and The Old Timer. Most of all, John enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. John is survived by his wife of 28 years, Patty. Children: Daniel (Mikki) Baker of Mason City, Mark Baker of Wisconsin and Kristina (Alex) Nodtvedt of Manly. Grandchildren: Casey, Garrett and Bailey Baker, Wyatt Baker and Andrew and Alexandra Nodtvedt. He is also survived by great grandchildren Mason and Memphis Dirksen and Mia Baker along with his siblings Charles (Shirley) Baker of Union and Claudette (Neal) Bluntach of Bovey, Minnesota. In-laws: Dan (MJ) Waite, Kenny Waite, Larry Waite, Tom Waite and Steve (Donna) Waite along with many other nieces, nephews and family members. John is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Margaret; and in-laws, Bill and Rose Waite.
