John C. Arney, 95, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the Iowa Veterans Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 12th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 11th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to his family in John’s memory. John Clare Arney was born on September 12, 1925 in Calumet, Michigan, the son of David and Kitty (Spurr) Arney. After graduating from Port Wing High School in Wisconsin, He was inducted into the United States Navy in 1943 and faithfully served our country during World War II before his honorable discharge in 1946. On July 15, 1951, he was united in marriage to Wava Zesch and the couple made their home near Ferguson on the farm where Wava was born. When John wasn’t busy farming, he enjoyed fishing, repairing bicycles and spending time with his family. Those left to cherish his memory are five children: Dan (Colleen) Arney, of Laurel, IA, Tressa (Richard) Townsend of Muscatine, IA, Jim (Sheila) Arney of LeGrand, IA, Randy Arney of Marshalltown, IA, and Lori (Brian) Thomas of Rochester, IA; 17 Grandchildren and 30 Great-Grandchildren. In eternal life, John has been reunited with his parents, his wife, Wava, a grandson, Michael John Barnum, a sister, Davine Sjodin and a brother, Veryl Arney.
