John Jack Louis Hafner, 72, of Marshalltown died Wednesday April 29th, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A memorial service celebrating Jacks life will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 5th, with visitation following until 8:00 p.m., at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Jack was born in Marshalltown on April 10th, 1937 to parents Frank J. and Marion (Sargent) Hafner. He was raised and educated in Marshalltown. On May 27th, 1968 Jack was united in marriage to Vicki Spencer in Lancaster, MO. The couple made their home in Marshalltown, where Jack worked in the Maintenance Department of Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, retiring in 2001. Jack was talented in many arenas, enjoying painting outdoor scenes on canvas, playing the guitar, and performing magic shows. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Left to mourn their loss, and celebrate Jacks memory is his wife Vicki; his son John Scott Hafner of Marshalltown; his daughter Melissa (James) Sears of Marshalltown; his daughter Monica (Dale) Barber of State Center; ten grandchildren; his sister Marilyn Green of DeWitt, IA.; several nieces and nephews; as well as many friends. In death, Jack has rejoined his grandparents, parents, sister Beverly Wolf, sister Clara Mickel of Arvada, CO, and grandson Robin John Hafner.
