John Lively, 75, of Edina, MN, formerly of State Center, died Monday morning, August 18th, at his home in Edina. His death came peacefully at 12:30 a.m. with family at his side at the home he loved. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, at the Hillside Cemetery with Rev. Brent DeSilva of the State Center United Methodist Church officiating. Flag presentation honors will be by the State Center American Legion Harlan Pfantz Post #122. Visitation will be held from 7-9:00 p.m. on Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel, 104 West Main Street, in State Center. Memorials may be directed to hospice or the State Center United Methodist Church. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born John Kenneth Lively on June 11th, 1933, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Kenneth and Helen (Ethington) Lively. He graduated class valedictorian of the State Center High Schools Class of 1951 and then attended Cornell College at Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and received his Masters Degree from Columbia University in New York. John served our country honorably in the United States Army Intelligence Branch in Panama. John was employed with KFJB radio in Marshalltown, WHO radio and television in Des Moines before joining 3M Company. He retired as a Director of Public Relations for 3M after 30 years. Left to cherish his memory are his siblings: James (Katey) Lively of State Center, Jean (Conny) Curtis of Oklahoma City, OK., Jane Ann (Elmer) Eggers of State Center; nieces and nephews: Tim Melton, Kim Lively, Todd Melton, Kathy Lively, Doug Lively, Traci Lawrence, Brad Eggers and Eric Eggers, several cousins and many friends. In death he has rejoined his parents Kenneth and Helen, step-mother Viola, two nieces, a grandnephew and special friend, Jim Simmer.
