John M. Shank 61, formerly of the Kellogg/Grinnell area passed away on Friday October 16, 2015, at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia, Iowa. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Please dress casual in memory of John. Shank was born on September 29, 1954, in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was the son of Manly and Lois (Arment) Shank. John attended school in the Grinnell Community School District graduating with the class of 1972. He served our country honorably in the United States Army for 3 years. He had resided in the Kellogg/ Grinnell area before moving to Albia. John had worked for Swift for 11 years and then was a welder for Farmhand until his retirement due to his health. He had belonged to a bowling league and the Moose Lodge both in Marshalltown. He loved to bowl, fish, and hunt, shoot pool and watch old military shows. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Todd(Stephanie) Shank of Michigan, John(Lacey) Shank Jr. of Missouri and Roxi(Aaron) Wilson of Oskaloosa, Iowa and 8 grandchildren, siblings, Tim (Shirley) Shank of Deep River, Iowa, Sheralyn (Everett) Shank of Kellogg and many nieces nephews and a host of friends. In death John rejoins his parents, Manly and Lois.
