Kenneth Louis Hartwig, 80, of Marshalltown, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at his home and under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Memorial services for Kenny will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Kenny and his family. Kenneth Hartwig was born on October 4, 1938 in Eldora, Iowa to Fernando “F.W.” Hartwig and Marge West Hartwig. He graduated from high school in 1957 and his brother Larry says he was a "monster" football player. On May 22, 1958, Kenny was united in marriage to Myrna Niederhauser at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Kenny honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1961. He was stationed in California as a radar operator and a Buck Sergeant. Kenny had worked for Fisher Control as a Machinist until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Local U.A.W. as well as Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Kenny enjoyed hunting, target shooting, fishing trips in Canada, trail riding in Yellow River, drinking coffee with his friends, tinkering around the house, and always looking forward to a good meal with his family.  Kenny has been quoted as being a “Prince of a man”. He was adored by his family and would go beyond the call of duty for them. He will be missed by all. Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Myrna. Children: Teri Lynne Eash of Russell, Iowa, Rebecca (Don) Johnson of Lennox, South Dakota and Barbara (John) Shibe of Liscomb. Grandchildren: Kathleen (Sven) Raeder, Mary Johnson, Blake (Rachel) Johnson, Shelby (Tyler) Routier and Amelia (fiancé William Ohrt) Abrahams. Great- grandchildren: Jayden, Alexander, Tristen, Madison, Devin and Amara and his brothers, Larry (Diane) Hartwig of The Villages, Florida and Don Hartwig of Conrad, as well as the special friends he served with in the Marine Corp. Kenny is preceded in death by his parents, F.W. and Marge; sisters, Joyce and Joan; son-in-law, Richard Eash; brothers-in-law, Vernon Deaton and John Niederhauser and father-in-law, Glenn Niederhauser.
