Kent Jason Jacobson, 67, of Kansas City, MO., died early Sunday morning, November 8th, at the North Care Hospice and Palliative Care in Kansas City. Funeral services for Kent will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at the Funeral Home. Born on July 1st, 1948, in Marshalltown, he was one of three boys born to Robert and Mary (Mendenhall) Jacobson of Dillon, Iowa. Kent graduated from the LDF High Schools Class of 1966 and later received his Masters Degree from the University of Northern Iowa in American History. He later briefly taught at the Meservey-Thornton in Thornton, Iowa. Kent was blessed with marriage to the love of his life, Penelope Penny (Adkins). Kent had a colorful career of occupations and residences. He lived in Las Vegas for 17 years where he worked at the Nevada Nuclear Test Site recovering ground materials from testing then moved to Kansas City for the past 19 years, working in heavy construction before retiring in 2010. One of his projects was the Kansas Speedway. Kent loved his family and enjoyed listening to Chuck Berry and Bob Dylan, reading Hunter S. Thompson and watching his favorite move, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Penelope Penny his daughter Erin S. Jacobson of Kansas City; step-daughter Melanie (Goshon) Novick of Ithaca, NY; brother Steven (Ginger) Jacobson of Marshalltown; five nephews- Kane Jacobson of State Center, Justin Jacobson of Rochester, MN, Tyler Jacobson of Chicago, Kyle Jacobson of Marshalltown and Marshall Jacobson of Marshalltown, two step-grandchildren Jacob Maxwell Novick (age 7) and Edith Rhyne Novick (age 4) of Ithaca, NY, and many friends. In death, Kent rejoined his father, Robert, his mother, Mary, his brother, Craig, and grandparents- Earl and Olive (Lovig) Jacobson and William and Julia (Steelman) Mendenhall.
