Lawrence “Larry” Steffa, 61, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be on Monday, March 26, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Military Honors will be provided by the combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Lawrence Wayne Steffa was born on April 11, 1956 in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was the son of John and Sharon (Worsfold) Steffa. Larry attended school in the Marshalltown Community School District graduating with the class of 1974. Larry served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1974 until 1977 where he was a Military Police Officer in Germany. On March 7, 1981, Larry was united in marriage to Beth Curtis at the Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. They called Marshalltown their home and Larry worked at JBS for approximately 30 years and also with his dad at John’s HI-FI and Larry’s Installations in Marshalltown. Larry and Beth had been members of Elim Lutheran Church. He loved music (very loud music), enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, fossil hunting, hunting duck, goose, and pheasant and was a member of Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. Larry had many interests but first and foremost was his family. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years, Beth; son Austin Steffa of Ames, Iowa and Alissa Steffa of Marshalltown; mother, Sharon Steffa; siblings, Helen Dansby, Pam Steffa (Rex Scovill) and Gerald Steffa, all of Marshalltown, as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death Larry rejoins his dad John; infant son Dustin; brother-in-law Jim Dansby; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
