Larry Weatherman

Larry Jay Weatherman, 82, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Monday, February 26, 2018 at Grandview Heights in Marshalltown, IA surrounded by his family. Larry was born November 23, 1935 in Iowa City, to William “Louie” and Gladys (Tansey) Weatherman. He graduated from Conrad High School in 1954. He farmed seasonally for many years. For 41 years he worked at Fisher Controls until retiring in 1998 and was a member of the UAW Local 893. On January 14, 1956 he was united in marriage to Jean Marie Thorn. The couple resided in Marshalltown for the last 53 years.Larry’s favorite hobbies included bowling, slow pitch, golfing, farming and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Larry was nicknamed “Grumpy” by his co-workers. This was even the name on the back of his Fisher slow-pitch team shirt. This nickname has stayed with him even to his great grandchildren. A funeral service will start at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a public visitation on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 5 – 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Larry will be missed by his loving wife, Jeannie; his five children: Vicki (John) Weaver of Albion, IA, Randy Weatherman of Marshalltown, Lori (Rod) Balvanz of Marshalltown, Dawn Anderson of Marshalltown, and Denise (John) Greenlee of Palo, IA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jason (Heidi) Weaver, Stefanie (Brett) Perry, Dustin (Sarah) Weaver, Ben Weatherman, Cortney (Nick) Horbach, Alek Balvanz, Kallie (Ashley) Balvanz, Brad Anderson, Chad (Renee) Greenlee, Brian (Leslie) Greenlee and 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers Kenny (Sandy) Weatherman and Bob (Barb) Weatherman; his four sisters Janet (Don) Noack, Beverly Earl, Jeri Weatherman, and Doris Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews and all of his wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Richard and Rex Weatherman and his sisters Peggy Wolken, Betty Weatherman, Connie Weatherman, Jeanne Lawler and Patricia Kunkel.
