Linda Kay Sells, 85, of Gladbrook, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Memorial services for Linda will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Linda Kay Whetstine was born on October 31, 1938 in Marshalltown. She was the daughter to Cleland and Mabel (Shetler) Whetstine. Linda was a proud graduate from the Marshalltown High School Class of 1956. On April 28, 1973, Linda was united in marriage to Ray Sells in Princeton, Missouri. Together, they called Toledo, Iowa home. Linda had previously worked for Marshalltown Instruments for over 25 years and worked on the farm with Ray for over 40 years. She enjoyed arts, crafts, bingo and musical activities while she was at Westbrook Acres. Linda enjoyed touring the country side, heading north to trout fish and going to Red Lobster to have some shrimp. She also enjoyed going to her Hardee’s breakfast group and Mike’s Pizza every night, except on Mondays because they were closed. Linda will be especially missed for the nightly 8:30 p.m. phone calls she would make to her son, Brett.
Linda is survived by her son: Brett (Joy) McLain of Ames. Grandchildren: Ashley (Ben) Boydstun, Brittany (Joel) Williams and Jennifer Sells. She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Zoe, Cayde, Carter and Camden Boydstun, Layne Williams, Sara Rodrigues and Layla Johnson; daughter-in-law: Irene Sells; sisters-in-law: Gail Davis, Karen Smith, Kay (Paul) Purvis and Dolores Whetstine, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Linda is preceded in death by her husband, Ray; parents: Cleland and Mabel; siblings: Mary Whetstine, Rolland Whetstine and Dick Whetstine. She is also preceded in death by her step-son: Marvin Sells; brothers-in-law: Lowell Davis and Kenny Smith along with nephews: Kevin and Mark Whetstine.
