Melvin Boone, 60, of Gilman, Iowa, died Friday, September 17, 2010, at the St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral services for Mr. Boone will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, September 22, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Melvins family asks that everyone attending the funeral dress in casual attire. Following services burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Visitation for Melvin will be held from 5:00 PM 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 21, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where his family will be present to greet friends. Memorials may be directed in Melvins name to his family. For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com Melvin was born May 5, 1950, in Webster City, Iowa, the son of Melvin George and Camilla Marcene (Wicks) Boone. He was raised in the Eagle Grove, Iowa area until the 1st grade when his family moved to Marshalltown. Melvin attended the Marshalltown School System. He worked at different construction jobs in Marshalltown before he enlisted with the United States Army. Melvin was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas where he actively served his country for two years. Following his honorable discharge Melvin returned back to Marshalltown where he began his career in trucking. Melvin was married to Jean Creason on June 7, 1983 in Esterville, Iowa. They lived in Esterville for a short time before making their home in Marshalltown. Melvin was a truck driver for several different companies throughout his career. He loved spending time with his family and watching NASCAR. He especially liked Ford Trucks and Peterbuilt Trucks. Melvin is survived by his wife Jean of Gilman, his mother Camilla Kosar of Marshalltown, his son Melvin (Sam) Boone of Haddock, Iowa, his stepsons; Troy Creason of Waterloo, Terry Creason of Marshalltown, Tim Borton of Marshalltown, Jerry Borton of Marshalltown, his step-daughters; Becki Reeder of Marshalltown and Rhonda (Mike) Tomlinson of Montgomery, Alabama, his sister Sandy (Martin) Shibe of Irvington, Illinois; his brothers Terry (Nancy) Boone of Marshalltown and Gary (Gloria) Boone of Gladbrook; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Melvin was preceded in death by his father Melvin, his brother Donnie in infancy; his step-father Adolph Kosar; great-grandson Ethan Zahnd; his Godparents Paul and Arlene Wicks and his grandparents.
