Minutes after the Packers won their game on Sunday, September 22nd, 2019, against the Broncos, avid Packer’s fan Michael “Mike” Gavagan took his last earthly breath and rejoined family in heaven. Mike was 58 years of age and passed away with the love of his family surrounding him at the Iowa River Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 26th, 2019 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with his cousin, Michael Fisher officiating. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born on November 8th, 1960, in Marshalltown, he was the son of John Charles and Mary Joan (Alvey) Gavagan. He received his education in the West Marshall Schools. One of his last places of employment was Ron Fisher Furniture until health issues prevailed. He enjoyed the Green Bay Packers and participated in Eye Openers Drum and Bugle Corps, but most of all treasured his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his children: James (Dani) Gavagan, Rochelle (Justin) Hernandez, John Gavagan and Kari (Charlie) Branan all of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Rikki, Jordan, Donovan, Zoe, ShyAnne, Javon, Brecken, Layla, LaTalya, J.J. and Josh; siblings- Aggie Gavagan, Peter (Sandee) Gavagan, Margee (Dale) Weston, Mary Catherine (Tom) Vaughn, Pat (Darren) Rivas, Mary Jo (Kevin) Morton and Joe (Kim) Gavagan, close friends Todd, Shawn and Sadie as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. In death, he rejoined his parents; a nephew, Brandon; a great-niece, Naomi and brother-in-law, Tom Vaughn.
